Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
If you thought Tottenham’s spanking new £1 billion state-of-the-art stadium was built just for hosting football games, then you, my friends, are in for a surprise. The new stadium was designed to host all sort of activities, ranging from football games to concerts to NFL games. Yup NFL games too.
This multi-functional marvel has cost a bomb to the club, but it has the potential to become one of the most iconic grounds in the near future because of its purpose-laden usefulness. Let’s get started, shall we?
A Little Bit of Info…
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the new home for the English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, replacing the iconic White Hart Lane. It is a multipurpose stadium, and it’s already the third-largest stadium in England and the biggest in the City of London. The stadium can host up to 62,850 people and even more depending on the nature of event and seating.
The Stadium cost a cool 1 billion pound to complete. It has a retractable surface and 324 floodlights. The stadium is installed with 4 huge LED screens and more smaller screens in different parts of the stadium. The parking in the stadium opens 3 hours before any event or matches and closes right at midnight.
Events Other Than Football…
As it is a multipurpose stadium, let’s look at some of the events the stadium has covered in its brief history.
Concerts
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has already hosted 6 high profile concerts that include names like Guns N’ Roses, Lady Gaga, Pink, Beyoncé, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Wizkid. The stadium has the permission to hold up to 6 concerts-a-year.
NFL Games
The stadium has hosted FOUR regular season NFL games. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the only stadium in England that can adapt and host NFL games because it is designed in a specific way to host such matches.
Rugby
Spurs’ new stadium has also hosted a major Rugby final in the form of the 2022 Challenge Cup final. It has also hosted games for the Premiership Rugby side Saracens. The stadium has hosted games for both Rugby League and Rugby Union.
Boxing
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosted the Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk match, a match that drew 65,000 strong crowds. It also hosted the bout between Derek Chisora and Tyson Fury, with a 60,000 crowd cheering them on.
