Tottenham Hotspur 4–1 West Ham: The Afterthought

So, Spurs are back on track. Of course, we wait for the next few fixtures to see if they really are back in their groove. Apart from the result, Son’s return to the starting XI and, on top of that, him banging in goals again was wholesome to see.

So, what did we learn from Spurs’ latest outing against the hammered Hammers?

Heung-min Son is back

The talisman is back with a bang. Two typical Son strikes and an industrious display—yup, the Spurs legend is back, and he looks like his old self. Tottenham has dearly missed Son despite that streak of wins.

It is so evident that Son is actually the lynchpin for this Spurs side, and he gives them an edge in games. His name on the team sheet is enough for the opposition to focus on him, which gives the other team members the licence to move around more freely. The threat is back, and he looks as sharp as ever; hopefully, for Spurs, he will remain fit for the remainder of the season if Spurs want to win something big in Ange’s second season (his words, not ours, wink wink).

Goals Galore, Start of something great or…

It was great to see Spurs banging in goals against a bang-average Hammers team. But hey, you can only beat what is in front of you, right? Spurs did that emphatically. They dismantled the sorry Hammers and sent them packing. Going forward has not been an issue for Ange and Spurs, and this game proved that yet again.

Spurs are masters of walloping the sides below them, and they have goals in them. Such performances raise the hopes of the Tottenham faithful. Why shouldn’t they, either? As discussed many times this season, Ange has said he wins trophies in his second year, so the Spurs fans will be hanging on to his words until the end of the season, and performances like these will only fuel the fire.

Kulusevski is here to stay

Kulusevski’s impact has gone under the radar a bit, but he has been pretty impressive so far this season. He looks like a natural in that no.10 position. Kulusevski has always been an intelligent player, which has worked wonders for him because he is now getting played in a position that suits his attributes.

Kulusevski is an excellent dribbler and has a good eye for a pass. He also has a good shot. It’s consistency that will ultimately decide his fate in this team. Against smaller opposition, Kulusevski looks ominous, but he needs to perform in the big game as well to make that position his own in the long term. We saw against Arsenal how he struggled to get in the game, but still, he had a couple of moments where he could’ve made an impact had a couple of things worked out for him.

Still, Kulusevski will take some shifting from that no.10 position in the near future, at least.
